I’m Dave Mead, the owner and maker behind Chuckling Coyote Studio. This small, veteran-owned business was born from my passion for woodworking and commitment to quality craftsmanship. The name of the studio comes from the many coyotes that frequent our small ranch, their howls, yips and barks inspiring the heart and soul of my work. From an early age, I was immersed in the world of wood, learning the art of refinishing and repairing furniture in my parents’ antique business. After serving in U.S. Naval Aviation, I pursued a degree in Building Construction, which, combined with my summers spent working in the construction trades, deepened my appreciation for true craftsmanship. Prior to starting Chuckling Coyote Studio, I spent years in commercial construction management and real estate brokerage. My drive to continue learning led me to study fine woodworking at the School of Art at Santa Fe Community College. These experiences came together to shape my journey, allowing me to create functional, aesthetically pleasing pieces that reflect both craftsmanship and design.
